SKID ROW: I Remember You

Skid Row is an American hard rock and glam metal, which was to become the prototypes of the rock band in the metal scene in the late 1980s. This band was one of the few that was not eclipsed by the grunge movement in the early 90s. Skid Row also managed to sell over 20 million albums worldwide

Biography

The group was formed in 1986 in Toms River, New Jersey. Their initial lineup consisted of Matt Fallon (vocals), Dave “The Snake” Sabo, Scotti Hill (guitar), Rachel Bolan (bass) and Rob Affuso (drums). Later joined the group vocalist Sebastian Bach, replacing Fallon. The band began playing clubs in the eastern United States. Aided by his friend Jon Bon Jovi, Sabo secured a contract for Skid Row with Atlantic Records label in 1988, then entered the studio with Michael Wagener (producer of Ozzy Osbourne, White Lion and Extreme fame, among others) to record their first album.

Skid Row, released in January 1989, was an instant success. He produced the well known singles “18 and Life”, “I Remember You” and “Youth Gone Wild.” The band also became involved in some incidents, especially the legal dispute in which its members were involved in royalty to the said Jon Bon Jovi and guitarist Richie Sambora. Despite the legal tussles with Bon Jovi, the album was the biggest seller of Skid Row by selling 5 million copies in the United States and most successful prototype following the Glam Metal bands of the era.

Skid Row, returned to the studio with Atlantic in 1990, to record their second album. Slave to the Grind, released in June 1991, debuted at No. 1 on U.S. charts. Slave to the Grind became a success, especially songs like “Monkey Business”, “Slave to The Grind” and “Wasted Time.” Skid Row once again goes on tour, this time with Guns N ‘Roses and Metallica in 1991, and made an appearance at the Donington festival in 1992 and became one of the discs of Heavy Metal Bestsellers in history since that album reached high positions in the billboard. In the debut album the band had Glam Metal influences but this is a much more Heavy Metal, changing the style of the band thereafter.

Even with the original lineup in 1992, Skid Row, recorded an EP (Extended Play), in September 1992, debuted at No. 58 of the Billboard 200. This EP, features versions of: The Ramones, Kiss, Judas Priest, Rush and Jimi Hendrix.
